1. Koşul cümlelerinde (if clauses) kullanılır:

6. As, than ve so sözcükleriyle:

7. Yer ve yön bildiren ifadeler cümle başına geldiğinde, sit, come, go, lie, stand, walk gibi geçişsiz fiiller (intransitive verbs) özneden önce gelirler:

8. Hikâye anlatırken belli fiillerle (say, ask, suggest, etc.) devrik yapı kullanılabilir:

9. Neither, nor ve so sözcükleriyle kullanılır:
