The author of this book is Jeff Kinney, but it is not based on his life at all, but the book series instead came from him unable to get his comics published. With this happening he decided to write a book.
The latest in the series focuses on the main character, Greg Heffley, trying to survive when his mother manages to make the municipality unplug and shut down electronics for a day per week. This is shown in a number of small and funny events, from Greg setting up a lemonade stand, to him going on a school trip. Many comparisons are also made between the past and today, in terms of technology and fun. Greg Heffley is never described in the book, all we see of him are just hand drawn pictures, which show him to be a tall, skinny, average teenager.
I chose this book because it is funny, and I like the story, since it has a good message. The whole book really asks: Can we live normally with no phones, or tablets, or any thing like that? The book had some really unexpected turns, such as a pig walking on two legs, and a fish being stored in a toilet. Don't ask. In my opinion, the book is excellent, and a must read. I heartily recommend it to my fellow students.
