Parents have ethical and legal obligations to promote what they believe to be the best interests
of their child.40,41 Interventions targeted to adolescents might reduce parents’ involvement and their
natural responsibility.

Initiatives need to consider the social aspects of obesity, in particular unhelpful beliefs, attitudes and discriminatory behaviours around body size. Trying to persuade someone to be more physically active is not only morally
problematic. From a psychological point of view, it is likely to be unsuccessful, at least in the long run.4

Distance to supermarkets was an effect modifier of 1-year change in BMI z-score and fruit and vegetable intake but not sugar-sweetened beverage intake. With each 1 -mile shorter distance to a supermarket, intervention participants increased their fruit and vegetable intake by 0.29 servings per day and decreased their BMI z-score by -0.04 units relative to controls.
