PMP adalah singkatan dari Patologi, Anatomi, Mikrobiologi dan terakhir Parasitologi. Ketiga poin ini sering berhubungan dengan kondisi tubuh manusia yang sakit atau bisa dibilang juga pelajaran tentang penyakit.
Patologi Anatomi berasal dari kata 'pathos' yang artinya menderita dan 'ogia'(ology) yang berarti studi. Sifat patologis dapat membantu dalam mengingat makna kedua patologi, karena berarti penyimpangan kesehatan dari yang normal atau yang seharusnya terjadi.
Mikrobiologi adalah ilmu yang mempelajari tentang makhluk hidup yang perlu dilihat dengan mikroskop. Arti dari mikro sendiri yaitu 'kecil', tidak bisa dilihat dengan mata langsung, contohnya seperti bakteri, virus dan Jamur.
Parasitologi adalah ilmu yang mempelajari tentang hewan hewan yang mjenjadi parasit (pengganggu) ditubuh manusia.
