i wrote a very long and boring stuff below.
It's quite frustrating to see the general public, including the people with whom I talk on a daily basis, downplay the severity of legitimate social issues while simultaneously perpetuating a plagued mindset of dismissing their discussion. You've probably seen some comments on a news website that say stuff like: "Stop being so offended about every single thing! Grow a pair!" With the rise of the "anti-PC" culture on the Internet, I've observed the crumbling of civil discourse by those who continue a tirade of "I'm not suffering from these issues, now please stop talking about it; you're making me uncomfortable" rhetoric (I realize the words within the quotation marks should be spaced out with hyphens but I dislike hyphens. Sorry Ms. Marsiglia). But before that, allow me to define what exactly the "anti-PC" culture IS.
I believe that an intrinsic response to deny the fact that others are going through a big obstacle in their lives is a manifestation of the anti-PC culture. It's the fear of having everything around them being politically correct, because obviously, the only correct opinion is the opinion of the self. But being politically correct is not an accurate way to address the wants of the marginalized group, who simply wants to be respected and heard. One way to shut them up is telling them that their struggles are invalid and the life that they've been given and endured is a myth. Do you see the discrepancy in the voices of the oppressed, and the voices of the bystanders? By what right do the people who have never experienced the marginalization speak out against the people who have?
The answer is simple. Everyone feels entitled to an opinion.
And let me tell you otherwise.
You are NOT entitled to your opinion, at least not in terms of entertainment. I'm not going to hold you at gunpoint and ask you to proclaim that Civilization V is the greatest game to be ever made. That's really more of a preference than an opinion tbh.
You are, however, entitled to corroborate your opinion, using actual evidence and the voice of those who are knowledgeable in the topic. Now that I've simplified the problem of the anti-PC culture to a rhetorical problem, you probably realize if you really think it out as logically as possible, it's not hard to understand why people voice their worries and complaints about real social issues. Sometimes you just need to ask yourself, "Hey, I might be wrong. I don't know what these people are going through, and if I could listen to their qualms, maybe I can help to create a better, more sensible community."
Don't get me wrong. The Internet is a great place, because I got to hear the stories of people who cope with problems that I've never heard of. If I weren't taught by life experiences to consider every side of an argument, I probably would have ended up just like those who attempt to debunk racism, sexism, ableism, etc. Unfortunately, the Internet has also become a platform on which ignorance is paraded and encouraged. I read the news quite a lot and whenever I want to engage in a discussion in order to learn more about the people of this country, I feel like my voice wouldn't be heard because the greatest discord results from the death of logic.
I don't want you to feel like you just sat through an essay. This is me telling you, no matter what age, color, sex, gender, body type, that some people will always listen to you and the heart of God will triumph above all.
