I think you do a great job of pointing out the irony that sometimes pervades our sense of justice: we disagree with murder to such an extent that the only worthy punishment, in some people's eyes, is for the killer to be murdered in return; this ostensibly creates a perpetual cycle of punishing evil acts with evil acts. I also agree with your sentiment that people generally use emotional reasoning following a tragic event or loss. This explains the cascading chain of death present in "The Libation Bearers." However, I don't agree with your idea that, "The only way humans cope with ... suffering is through revenge." While this can be true in many cases, it seems reductive--people also cope with suffering through forgiveness, various outlets, and through the passing of enough time from the tragic event.
