GlyphosateGlyphosate is a sustainable crop choice that farmers use to ensure our food supply for the future.
It's easy to see that the world is experiencing an an increase in population. It's not a secret that the global population is growing. In 2050, the population will be 9.7 million people.1 But the amount of land that can be used for farming in the world isn't expanding at the same rate as we do. This presents significant challenges for farmers responsible for providing high-quality food for Canadians and others worldwide.

Canada is currently the fifth largest exporter of food globally.2 Canadian farmers are expected to play a crucial role in providing the world the food that it needs. They will be required to supply more food items than ever before.

By 2050, farmers will have to produce 70% more food products to meet the needs of the increasing population. * Source: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Farmers aren't equipped with the growing demand. Modern technology, such as herbicides and glyphosate, are able aid farmers in controlling herbicides effectively and effectively. グリホサート This means the sustainability of a stable and sustainable food supply.

What exactly is glyphosate?

Glyphosate is a powerful herbicide that is non-selective and has been used by gardeners, land managers farmers, and other people around the globe for more than 40+ years. https://www.nies.go.jp/kisplus/dtl/chem/YOT00096 It works by inhibiting an enzyme that plants -- in this case, undesirable weeds, require to develop. Glyphosate is safe for both animals and people if it is used in a safe manner.

グリホサート There is also a broad range of uses for glyphosate, which goes beyond agricultural. It is also employed in municipal green spaces to protect wildlife from harmful weeds.6 It can also be applied to railway tracks for visibility and fire prevention.

Recently, there's been a heightened level of attention on the use of glyphosate in our lives. グリホサート While it's crucial to think about what goes into our food and drinks, it is important to note that more 160 global health regulators, including Health Canada have agreed that glyphosate when used correctly, is safe for consumption by humans.

Canadians must be better informed about glyphosate and how it is used. グリホサート This will ease their concerns.

Why use glyphosate in agriculture?

The use of glyphosate-based herbicides is beneficial to farmers, consumers and the environment. This is essential for effective herbicide control, safe food supply, and sustainability of the environment. Let's examine each of these advantages in more in depth.

Globally farmers lose between 30 and 40 percent of their crops due to pests, weeds, and disease.9 Without the use of crop protection practices the losses could increase by as much as 80% according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. This is particularly damaging for farmers since the crops they grow are their main source of income.

グリホサート It's not a surprise that farmers depend on reliable tools every year. グリホサート pka Application of glyphosate on fields is a tried and tested method of keeping harmful herbicides from crops particularly glyphosate-tolerant ones.

Crops against. weeds--the battle of their existence

Glyphosate is a herbicide which provides crops with a chance to fight.

Canadians and other consumers around the world benefit from the abundance of and affordable food

The population is on the rise, and the majority of our land that is used for food production could become unusable within 40 years. This could lead to food security issues. Canadians are likely to spend 55% less on food items if there aren't any technological advances in agriculture, such as the use of glyphosate.11

Furthermore, our favorite foods will be more difficult to obtain. But the good news is that farmers will continue to produce our most loved staple foods thanks to the science of plant breeding.

Glyphosate can help you manage weeds and ensure that you can afford food items at the store however. Glyphosate is also helpful to farmers to take care of what Cherilyn Jolli-Nagle, a Saskatchewan farmer, calls "their most valuable asset" the land they own.

Make sure we have the foods that we love on the table

Farmers can prosper by using crop protection tools, for example, glyphosate. It protects crops from pests and diseases.

42% more grains such as corn and wheat

72% more fruit

83% more vegetables and potatoes12

These benefits are obvious. But is it really safe to use glyphosate?

It is essential to keep in mind that all pesticides need to be used in accordance with the directions on the label. In Canada, glyphosate use is regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), which inspects crops for residues from pesticides, ensuring farmers are using it correctly as well as the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) which offers the regulatory guidelines, product submission evaluations and approvals (or rejections)--and has one of the most rigorous evaluation processes throughout the world.14

While regulatory agencies make sure that farmers are using approved herbicides producers and farmers play an important role in ensuring glyphosate is used properly and safely so that no unintended harm is posed to the animals, the environment or human.

Because of technological advancements and the use of precision farming, farmers can use data to be more precise in applying glyphosate in specific regions.

It is extremely rare for pesticide residue to be present in food items. However, it can nevertheless cause harm if it is. The CFIA assures that farmers use herbicides properly and work within the established residue limits.16 On the rare occasions that it is found in low levels (e.g. 1 part per billion) the amount is lower than the limit set by the Government of Canada, and not a health or safety issue since it does not cause any harm to humans or animals.18

Glyphosate use as part of sustainable farming practices

As part of an integrated pest/weed management system, farmers apply herbicides, such as glyphosate. They employ multiple herbicides to manage the growth of weeds. Glyphosate allows farmers to use conservation tillage and no-till methods that will benefit the long term health of soil as well as the air and environment.

- Reducing or eliminating plowing or tilling

- Reduced CO2 emissions

- Capturing carbon from the soil

Improve soil health

- Reducing water runoff and erosion

"No pesticide regulatory body around the globe considers the glyphosate ingredient to pose a risk of cancer to humans at the current exposure levels." - Health Canada (January 11, 2019).

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

It is now more important than ever before for Canadian farmers to have access to the tools, technologies and assistance required to meet the growing demands for food production.

If they follow the best agricultural, pest control and food safety procedures Farmers will continue to ensure our food supply is healthy and plentiful. Glyphosate is one of many tools they will use to ensure that Canadians and others around the globe, have access to nutritious and affordable food--now and for the years to come.
