Sony Ericsson will Showcase over 20 new Games Optimized For Xperia Play

In our Xperia Play review, we were concerned about the inability to find games that are specifically made for the handheld's controls. It's only right to note that a plethora of new games are coming soon -- some old and some brand new and all designed for this specific brand of button-mashing. Headline acts include Minecraft (a port we've already seen in action) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have both been accruing headshots on iOS devices for some time now. The details will be announced at E3 next week, where the Xperia Play will compete for attention alongside the Sony NGP. We'll just need to twiddle our fingers until the time comes to spin them vigorously.

London, June 2, 2011 London, June 2, 2011 Sony Ericsson is again teaming up with Gameloft, a leading global producer of social and digital games, to deliver an exclusive experience exclusively for its flagship gaming smartphone - Xperia(tm) PLAY. It will come with exclusive access to the all-action spy thriller shooter game Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard, adapted from the famous Ubisoft video game series. Xperia(tm), PLAY brings high-octane, international action adventures to the Android operating system by making full use of the device's amazing graphic capabilities and game-changing pad. The Android version of the game, which is scheduled to be launched on Friday 3rd June, will be accessible only to Xperia(tm) PLAY customers in Western Europe throughout June and July.



Adapted from the famous Ubisoft's video game franchise, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is one of the most popular video game brands. It's a tactical , first-person shooter that is energetic and enjoyable. The game is based on an imagined international counter-terrorist force named Rainbow. The game is more focused on stealth and tactics than guns and firepower, weapons (including assault rifles and handguns with high calibers) as well as uniforms, equipment and uniforms are selected to match the operative's capabilities and mission.

Consumers in Western Europe with an Xperia(tm) Play will be able to download a free copy Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard during the months of June and July 2011. The game will only be available on Android on the Sony Ericsson Xperia (tm) PLAY.



In addition, Sony Ericsson also announces 20 new games, including 10 exclusive titles, optimized for Xperia(tm) PLAY. The new games, many of which will be showcased at the world's most prestigious games exhibition, E3, June 7-9.



The latest titles appeal to a broad range of players and occasions, from the most innovative, multi-player online games (MMOs) to immersive titles to brand new, graphically rich casual games.



The most notable of the titles that were that were announced today is Minecraft(tm), the much sought-after game from Swedish indie developer Mojang. Minecraft(tm) is one of the fastest growing game franchises in the history of gaming with over 8 million registered players to date, and more than 50,000 new players joining every day.



Sony Ericsson can confirm that new games from Sony Computer Entertainment's stable of classic PlayStation 1 titles will be coming to Xperia(tm) PLAY in the near future.



Sony Ericsson supports the Android ecosystem through its partnerships with key industry players like Unity and Havok. This collaboration is helping to create an ever-growing ecosystem. Sony Ericsson will launch a programme known as "Stand Out from the crowd" to help and discover innovative game developers. This program lets game developers be part of the Xperia (tm) PLAY story and gets their games the exposure they need. Sony Ericsson will be present at E3 in Los Angeles, June 7-9 for the first hands-on demos of Xperia(tm) PLAY as well as a host of the latest games at the Sony Ericsson booth 713.
