The Blog Post Published on Wednesday

According to a blog post published Wednesday, Mojang Studios has taken a firm stand on blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Mojang is well-known for its best-selling game of all time Minecraft 3D, a 3-D (3D) Sandbox game with no goals.

To date Mojang has sold 238 million copies of Minecraft and no other video game has sold more copies. Minecraft's sales are followed by the top selling games like Grand Theft Auto V (165M copies), Tetris (100M copies) and Wii Sports (82.9M copies).

The blog post released on Wednesday it states that Minecraft will not be using blockchain technology or NFTs. The Minecraft creators are convinced that "all players should have access to the same functionality" and "everyone has access to the same content."

The use of NFTs is against the company's values, since NFTs can "create models of exclusion and scarcity that are in conflict with the company's] guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft." The company gives a variety of reasons like the fact there are too many blockchains offering NFTs, "some third-party NFTs are not reliable," and NFTs have been "sold at artificially or [forfraudulently high prices."

"As as a result to ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be used into our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any game-related content, including worlds persona items, skins or other mods." Mojang's blog post details. The video game developer from Stockholm added:

We will also be keeping an eye on how blockchain technology evolves over time to ensure the principles above are not violated, and to determine if it will allow for more secure gaming experiences or other practical and inclusive applications. We do not have any plans of incorporating blockchain technology into Minecraft as of now.

Mojang Won't Be Following Heavy Weight Game Software Companies Like Square Enix, Konami, Ubisoft - Minecraft Creator Believes "Speculative Pricing and Investment Mentality is a way to take the fun away from playing the game

Mojang's decision comes at a moment when companies like Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Konami have all launched NFT implementations of one form or another. In 2021, at the end, Ubisoft and GSC Game World faced backlash over NFT inclusion.

GSC Game World was so critical of the companies that it decided to stop production of NFT elements for Stalker 2. Nicolas Pouard, an executive at Ubisoft spoke to the press that he believes players don't understand the technology's benefits and rejected NFTs.

Konami detailed in February that it was planning to continue issuing NFTs to safeguard the company's content. Square Enix also participated in a $35million investment round for Zebedee, a fintech company and bitcoin payment processor. Zebedee is a Hoboken New Jersey-based company Zebedee is a specialist in the integration of bitcoin payments into games.

Mojang does not want to have anything to do with blockchains or NFTs as it is an all-inclusive game. "The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from the game and encourages profiteering, which we think is inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players," Mojang concluded on Wednesday.
