Avanos Medical and FDA issued a Class 1 recall of 629 units of CORTRAK*2 an enteral access device, which is a feeding tube placement device that has been linked to numerous fatalities and injuries.
The devices were made available between April 1, 2016, between January 1st, 2022 and April 1, 2016. These devices can be utilized by healthcare professionals to place feeding tubes inside the stomach or the intestines.
Avanos Medical Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Nasogastric tubes, also known as Nasoenteric tubes, that were placed incorrectly have resulted in the deaths of 23 people and 60 injury reports since the year 2015.
Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Cortrak 2 eternal access system The recall is used to update the label of the device, which will instruct users to verify that the tube was placed correctly before delivering nutrition.
"Adverse incidents reported include respiratory failure or pneumothorax (collapsed lung), perforation (a hole in the wall of the lung, esophagus, or bowel) or pneumonia (a lung infection) and pleural effusion (excess fluid that is leaking from the space between the lungs and chest cavity)," according to the FDA.
