Minecraft 1.18 release date: what's coming with Caves and Cliffs Part 2?

What's new in Minecraft 1.18, and when will it be released? Together, 1.17 and 1.18 comprise the huge Caves and Cliffs update that will forever alter the world of Minecraft with huge numbers of new blocks, amazing new resources, and stupendous world generation changes that we'll discuss below.

Here's what to expect with Caves and Cliffs Part 2 as well as the latest information regarding the Minecraft 1.18 release date.

Minecraft 1.18 release date

Minecraft 1.18 will be released on November 30th

for both Java for both Java Bedrock editions, as announced on Minecraft.net. This release will form part 2 of the Caves and Cliffs update which was originally intended to be released as a whole with 1.17. Mojang has decided to divide Caves and Cliffs into two major updates in order to give them more time to work on the massive changes these updates will bring to Minecraft.

I'm talking about massive. Caves and Cliffs part 1 introduced over 90 new types of blocks and new creatures like Glow Squid, Goats, and Axolotls; and new tools such as Lightning Rods and Spyglasses. Caves and Cliffs part 2 will fundamentally alter the nature of terrain in Minecraft and fill the most secluded levels of the world with a variety of new resources and strange things. Let's look at the Minecraft 1.18 update's features.

Terrain changes: exploring below Y=0

Minecraft 1.18 is a major overhaul of world generation.

you'll be able dig below Y-Level 0

.

The new depth is -64. tiara's blog Below Y=0, you'll enter what's called the "Deepslate Layer", where stones are transformed into deepslate blocks. This is the case for veins of ore as well Below Y=0, you will find gold, copper and iron in deepslate veins.

You'll find all sorts of fascinating new cave structures in 1.18 thanks to the new underground terrain generation changes. The brand-new Deep Dark biome was going to be a part of the Caves and Cliffs changes, but this biome has been delayed along with its risky denizen, the Warden to the release of Minecraft 1.19: the Wild Update.

You'll also have to search elsewhere for Diamonds due to the changing terrain. Learn more about it with our guide on how to locate Diamonds in Minecraft.

Towering mountains

Mountains in Minecraft 1.18 are being redesigned, and now are generated in a completely new method. Instead of having only one or two "extreme hills", or "mountain" biomes there are five new sub-biomes that make up the different layers within each mountain.

- Mountain Meadow (Y=100-140): home to sweet berry and flowering bushes The Mountain Grove (Y=110-140): snowy and home to rabbits as well as Polar bears. - Snowy Slopes (Y=140-170) The snowy slopes are icy and cold, home to goats. - Lofty Peaks (Y=170+) They are mountains of stone, snow, and ice. - Snow Capped Peaks: Similar to Lofty Peaks, but cold enough to create Packed Ice.

Pay pay attention to the Y-Levels and you'll see that 1.18 increases the maximum height of mountains. They were capped at Y=140 before, but they can now be able to reach Y=255. That sounds perfect for some towers and castles on top of mountains.

There aren't many mountains that will be this tall, however, and only the highest mountains will be sporting the new Lofty Peaks and Snow Capped Peaks biomes. But, these new terrain changes are bound to provide a new feeling of exploration and discovery to the tops of any 1.18 Minecraft world. I will be busy updating our list of the best Minecraft seeds once part 2 of Caves and Cliffs is out!

Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave biomes

Caves and Cliffs part 2, which is diving back into the earth and brings two cave types The Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave.

Lush Caves are temperate caves that are brimming with moss, vines and exotic flora like Glow Berries and Azalea trees and roots, and dripleaf: A new type of block that can only hold a player's weight for a brief period of time before tipping over and falling backwards, allowing the player to fall. Sounds like Lush Caves are gonna be ideal locations for parkour. I'm eager to see how these stunning caves look like using the most effective Minecraft shader packs.

Dripstone Caves are home to the Dripstone blocks. These blocks naturally grow from the process of drips to create organic stalagmites and stalactites. Besides this fascinating terrain feature Dripstone Caves function like any other cave however they'll be highly sought after just because of the dripstone.

What about the other features that were promised in Caves and Cliffs Part 2?

Many of the notable additions originally planned to be launched in Minecraft 1.18 were delayed. They will now be available to us in Minecraft 1.19 at the most recent. It is expected to release in 2022 or so. These delays include the new Deep Dark biome, Sculk Blocks, and the Warden.

It's been confirmed at least three of those delayed features (namely Bundles and Archaeology) aren't included with the Wild Update. However, the Minecraft team is trying to assure us that none of these features are being canceled. It's a sad day for those who were enthusiastic about these changes. However, we'll soon be able to explore the vast terrain changes that Minecraft 1.18 will bring.

That's a wrap on the main features and details of Minecraft's upcoming 1.18 update. The best way to change up the look of your world and inject that excitement back into the game is to install one of the best Minecraft texture packs. You can also test one of the many Minecraft servers currently available to enjoy a completely different experience than the typical single-player experience.
