Avanos Medical is recalling Cortrak*2 Entry Access System. The FDA says that patients have suffered injuries and even killed by nasogastric and nasoenteric tube misplacement. Cortrak 2 eternal access system The recall currently comprises 629 devices which were sold in the United States.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos has launched the Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System due to its on-screen visualization of a patient's stomach , or small bowel, to aid in the correct placement of a medical feeding tube. Avanos Medical Patients may suffer injuries to their vocal chords, lungs or trachea if a tube is not correctly placed. Avanos Medical's recall notification states that as of 2015, there has been 60 deaths and 23 injuries related to misplacement nasogastric feed tubes when using the CORTRAK*2 enteral access system. Pulmonary failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) and perforation (a hole in the esophagus or bowel wall) pneumonia, an excess of fluid that is accumulating between the lung and chest cavity (the chest cavity and lungs) are just a few of the injuries.
Avanos Medical has described a plan to provide users with updated labeling, to confirm the proper placement of nasogastric and nasoenteric tube prior to use.
Avanos is the second alert that the FDA has issued about intra-oral feeding tubes.
