Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall for about 629 units of the CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System, a feeding tube placement device responsible for dozens of deaths and injuries.
Avanos Medical feeding tube The devices were made available between April 1st of 2016 until January 1, 2022. Avanos Medical feeding tube These devices can be utilized by health professionals to insert feeding tubes inside the stomach or intestines.

Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 The recall is used to change the device's label , which instructs users to ensure that the tube is correctly placed before feeding.
"Adverse events reported included respiratory failure or pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and perforation (a hole in the wall of the lung, esophagus, or bowel) as well as pneumonia (a lung infection) and the pleural effusion (excess fluid that is leaking from the lung's space and the chest cavity)," according to the FDA.
