Game-makers have made mobile gaming more complex over the last few years. You can play games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty and Apex Legends on your mobile device by using services like GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Your phone or tablet has a smaller screen than your TV, which means less real estate for controls and visuals and gaming controllers might be necessary.
Third-party controllers aren't new to Apple However, they aren't new to Apple. You can connect the DualSense for PlayStation and the wireless controller from Xbox to your iPad or iPhone. Controllers from other companies like the Razer Kishi and the Backbone One are specifically designed to be used on mobile devices for gaming.

However, if you already have a Nintendo Switch, there's no requirement to purchase an external gaming controller. There are two Joy-Cons attached to your console. The best part is, pairing the Joy-Cons to your iPhone or iPad takes just a few minutes.
To make this work, you'll need to be running iOS 16, which is currently available as an open beta. Here's how to download it right now.

How to connect your JoyCons to your iPhone or iPad If not, just connect them to the Nintendo Switch while it's charging in the dock. When your Joy-Cons are fully in good condition and ready for use, slide them off of your console and follow the following:
1. First press and hold the black pairing button on the top of the Joy-Con until the green light appears to be running back and forth. This means that the Joy-Con is now in pairing mode.
2. Next on your iPhone or iPad go to Settings > Bluetooth.
3. Scroll down to find the Joy-Con in Other Devices. Depending on the Joy-Con you're currently pairing, you'll see either Joy-Con L or Joy-Con.
4. To pair it, simply tap the Joy-Con option. If needed you want to repeat the process, just do it with the other Joy-Con.

After your Joy-Cons are connected with each other, you can launch any game that has third-party controllers like Minecraft, Among Us and Call of Duty, and play with your newly paired Joy-Cons. Certain mobile games do not support both Joy-Con controllers simultaneously, which means you might only need one.
To unpair Joy-Cons, open Settings >Bluetooth and tap the blue information icon. Then, tap Disconnect.
