What to Know

To play Minecraft on your Quest, you need a VR-ready computer and an extension cable.

Use the link cable to play both Java and Bedrock Minecraft versions.

This article will show you how to play Minecraft on your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 virtual reality headset. We provide instructions for both Bedrock and Java versions of Minecraft.

Can You Play Minecraft on Meta (Oculus) Quest or Quest 2?

For the Rift VR headset there is an official Minecraft Bedrock edition. However, Quest and Quest 2 don't have Minecraft. You can still play Minecraft on this platform however, only if you own a VR-ready PC and a link cable. Your computer runs Minecraft and transmits visual information directly to the headset. https://minecraftservers.quest/ This allows you to play Minecraft in VR so long as your PC is tethered.

You can play various versions of Minecraft on your Quest However, the procedures differ. You will need to buy one of the versions in case you don't own the other.

Here are the versions of Minecraft that you can play on Quest:

Windows 10 (Bedrock) edition: This is the version of Minecraft that you can purchase from the Microsoft store. It has VR capabilities built-in and is easy to install and use, but this version can't be modded in the same way as the Java version can. Java edition is the version that came with Minecraft that has tons of mods that are free to download online. It's a little more complicated to get this version running in VR it requires you to install Java, Steam, and Steam VR if you haven't already done so however the gameplay is more interesting. For instance you can mine bricks by physically using your controllers to swing them.

How to Play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Meta (Oculus) Quest or Quest 2

It's easy to get the Bedrock Edition running in VR. You'll need the Minecraft app, Oculus app, Oculus Rift Minecraft apps, and a link cable to attach your Oculus to your PC.

Here's how to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on your Quest:

Search for Minecraft and choose it from the results.

Click to Download or Download.

This isn't the complete Minecraft app, it's an app that is free and allows Minecraft Bedrock Edition to run in VR on Meta/Oculus hardware.

Wear your headset and connect it to your computer using a link cable.

Select Enable for Oculus Link.

Find Minecraft in your apps , then select Start.

Minecraft VR will be available.

How to Play Minecraft Java Edition on Meta (Oculus) Quest or Quest 2

It is possible to play Minecraft Java Edition in VR via your Quest, but it is more difficult. Vivecraft is required to enable the Java edition of Minecraft in VR. The VR implementation is more powerful than the Bedrock version, and provides you with a variety of movement and interaction options to customize your experience.

Install Java, Steam, and Steam VR to play Minecraft Java Edition on Quest. If you don't have all three installed, be sure you install them prior to proceeding.

Here's how to play Minecraft Java Edition on a Quest:

Navigate to Vivecraft's download page and then click the most recent version of Vivecraft.

Click vivecraft-x.xx.x-jrbudda-x-x-installer.exe and download the file.

After the file has completed downloading, open it and click Install.

If Java isn't installed on your computer it will fail to install.

Click OK.

Launch the Oculus app on your computer.

Put on your Quest headset and connect to your computer using a an extension cable.

Select Enable.

Locate Steam VR on your computer, and then click Launch.

Select the monitor icon in the Steam VR interface.

If you have multiple monitors available, choose the one that Minecraft will run on.

Minecraft will not display on your virtual desktop if you choose the wrong monitor.

In this case you could repeat the process to select the correct monitor or take off your headset and move the Minecraft window to your other monitor.
