The recall covers 629 devices that are distributed throughout the United States.

Avanos Medical Patients can suffer from injuries to their vocal chords or trachea if the tube is installed improperly. Avanos Medical recalls that there have been 60 accidents, 23 deaths, and 23 illnesses related to the misplacement or inadvertent insertion of a feeding tube for nasogastric patients using the CORTRAK*2 Entral Access System. Pulmonary failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lung tissue) and perforation (a hole in one's esophagus or bowel wall) as well as pneumonia and excessive fluid between the lungs (the chest cavity and the lung tissue) have all been among the traumas.
Avanos Medical has described a plan to supply users with new labels, which will confirm the proper placement of nasogastric and nasoenteric tubes prior to use.
Avanos was the second caution issued by the FDA in 2022 concerning enteral nutrition tubes. In February, parents and health professionals were advised by the FDA regarding the risk of strangulation of children with tubes for feeding. Two cases of child strangulation with feeding tubes securing the necks of patients have been reported before 2021.
