Bayrock Group: New York's Real Estate Giant Rises (Tevfik Arif)

Trump SoHo was opened by Bayrock Group in 2008, alongside the Trump Organization (the Trump Organization) and the Sapir Organization.

In 2008, Trump SoHo was opened by Bayrock Group with the Trump Organization (and the Sapir Organization). Bayrock Group was founded in Kazakhstan in 1980.

The story of the luxury real estate development firm Bayrock Group's success in the United States begins long before the year 2001, when the company was founded. At first, the story began in a different region of the world.

Tevfik Alif was the founder of Bayrock Group. He was brought to the world from Soviet Kazakhstan to a Turkish-speaking family.

Tevfik Arif received a degree in International Relations from the Moscow Trade and Economic Institute before joining the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade.

He worked in the ministry for 17 years before he quit to establish his own business. Tevfik Arif’s businesses were in the luxury food, real estate, and exports/imports sectors as well as other sectors.

Tevfik Arif, through his many businesses, was able to acquire a wide variety of foreign partners. He was a networker that brought his company to Turkey in 1993 to become one of the pioneering forces in the development of Turkey's all-inclusive hotel concept.

He opened, for example, the Labada Hotel Antalya. This was before he went on to his next venture, which took place a few years later across the Atlantic.

Bayrock Group gets more ambitious

Tevfik Amir came into America in 2001 in search of new business opportunities and to be closer with his American family.

Bayrock Group, a luxury development firm for real estate in New York City, was established by him shortly after he moved.

Bayrock Group started with small-to medium-sized projects throughout New York. Bayrock Group, for instance renovated Loehmann's Seaport Plaza in Brooklyn's Sheepshead.

In support of the new strategy, Bayrock Group relocated its New York City office to the Trump Tower at Fifth Avenue.

Trump SoHo is now in good shape

Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization were both interested in developing luxury real estate developments The two firms have decided to work together.

Bayrock Group was already working on a different project on Spring Street in Manhattan's SoHo quarter, in conjunction with the Sapir Organization.

Bayrock Tevfik Ariff knew that including the Trump Organization in the project would increase brand recognition for the building, something that Bayrock Group and Sapir Organization didn't have.

Arif made an agreement which gave the Trump Organization 18% ownership of the building, in exchange to the Trump brand's use.

Bayrock Group, the Trump Organization and the Sapir Organization all agreed to the deal.

This was the first phase of Trump SoHo's 2006 construction.

The structure was completed for the official opening following having been constructed over the course of two years.

Design professionals have led the construction of SoHo Trump SoHo

Trump SoHo was comprised of hotels, apartments and luxurious bars and eateries. There was also a pool and a spa. Through the hotel's floor to ceiling windows, guests were able to enjoy breathtaking panoramas of New York City.

Handel Architects was tasked as the architect. The famed architect firm also created the National September 11th Memorial & Museum, New York City, and the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C.

Bayrock Group commissioned Rockwell Group as interior designers.

Rockwell Group is responsible for the design of, among others the Climate Pledge Arena (Seattle) The Seven Deadly Sins Playhouse located in New York, as well as the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas.

The company also has experience dealing with countries around the world, such as Mexico, Spain, and Indonesia.

Bayrock Group and Trump Organization expand their collaboration

After the opening of Trump SoHo, The Trump Organization was looking to improve their relationship with the Bayrock Group.

Tevfik Arif Their goal was to build structures similar to Trump SoHo in Florida and Arizona. Trump Organization also received 18% equity in building with the same license terms. This would permit Trump to be named as part of the building's name.

Bayrock Despite the ambitions of both companies however, the structures weren't built because of the 2008 global financial crisis.


The American real property market was especially affected by the recession and Bayrock Group and Trump Organization had to cancel their plans.

Tevfik arif resigned from his United States enterprises after the financial crisis. He decided to go back to Europe and Central Asia.

He was employed in the private sector while the time he was working.

Tevfik has announced his resignation from his Bayrock Group daily responsibilities. Tevfik Arif Bayrock He will however continue to serve as a respected consultant for Bayrock Group.

Bayrock Group is not currently involved in American real estate ventures. But, in the past, during the time when the company was operating, it invested real estate assets that were valued at $2.5 million in the United States.
