The throwback MMO was a hit for many years without any formal guild system.
It's hard to believe that guilds are an expected feature of any MMO, but not one that's been around as long as Old School Runescape. The community has been gathering in informal groups for years however, today the throwback MMO finally has a clan system.
The Clan update was announced in 2019 (opens new tab), and now includes the Clan Hub within Grand Exchange. You'll have the ability to browse existing clans or create your own. You can also manage recruitment and create ranks like you'd expect. Clans will also have their own halls to gather in, an instanced chamber that can be made available to selected guests.

Of course it's true that the Runescape community has been forming clans for years on discord servers and forums. It's a bit bizarre that it's taken so long for the game to finally bring in what is considered to be a standard feature for MMOs. That said, the lack of formal clans hasn't hindered the 2007 nostalgia journey from being extremely popular. Last year, the game set an record for the most concurrent players (opens in a new tab) This was before the game made its long-awaited move to Steam (opens in a new tab).
