Avanos Medical Cortrak*2 Enal Access System was designed to allow medical professionals who are trained to insert medical feeding tubes in the stomachs or small bowels of patients that require nutritional support. The tube that feeds patients has been linked to 23 deaths since the year 2015.
Numerous reports have shown that patients have suffered injuries or even passed away after their nasogastric tubes or nasoenteric ones were not properly placed. This is despite the fact that the device was designed to assist with their placement.
This recall will change the device's labels, including the directions for use and intended uses. The updated instructions advise users to confirm the location of the tube as per the protocols of their institution before using them to deliver nutrition.
Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Patient's vocal cords, lungs, and the trachea can be damaged if the nasogastric/nasoenteric tube was placed in a wrong way. This could result in serious injury or even death.

The CORTRAK*2 enteral access device has been used since the year 2015. Avanos Medical Pneumothorax (collapsed lung), pneumothorax ("collapsed lung") perforation ("hole in the wall" or bowel of the lung) and pneumonia (a bacteria-infected infection of the lung) and pleural fluid (excess fluid in between the lungs).
Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos Medical issued on March 21, 2022 a field correction notice to customers using these devices between January 20th, 21st, and January 20th, 22nd. The notice provided the following information:
Confirm placement of the nasogastric and nasoenteric and other tubes according with institutional policies.
