How to Get Minecraft Capes

How can you acquire a pair of Minecraft capes You might think? You may have heard rumours, whispers of a fabled piece of cloth that is worn on the shoulders of the most prestigious Minecraft players. The legends speak of myriad Minecraft capes that were given to the lucky few over the years. The word on the block (sigh) is that capes can also alter the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in the end of ships, since they take up the same space on a player's back. Needless to say, Minecraft capes are extremely sought-after however they're not easily obtained.

Those who ventured to any Minecon event prior to Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft capes; each year, they received a new colour and design. More rare are the personal capes given to people who are lucky in recognition of their accomplishments, like Reddit user u/billyk_, who received a personalized turtle cape for suggesting Mojang should add turtles to Minecraft.

Get a Minecraft cape by migrating your account to Minecraft.



In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it is migrating all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a requirement and if you don't switch your account over when the time comes then you'll never be able to play Minecraft unless you use the launcher.



On the bright side, after you sign into Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll unlock an amazing new cape and maybe more as Mojang suggests that players will receive more than one outfit to showcase'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically set up with Microsoft instead of Mojang.

How to activate Minecraft capes



If you own an official Minecraft cape, you can equip them prior to starting an online game. The capes you have Bedrock caps are only available in this version. The same is true for any capes that you can earn in Minecraft Java version.



Start the app, and click the button to access the Dressing Room from your main menu. Next, click on the tab to the left with a red cape and the Mojang logo. This will show all your capes that are available, so choose one and click on equip.



For the Java version, you need to launch the Launcher and click on Minecraft: Java Edition on the left-hand side of the screen. You will see a number of options, including Skins. Click this option to bring up all your current skins. From here, you can create your own skin or edit an existing one. You can view all your official-available capes by clicking on the option to choose Skin File.



Make a cape using Minecraft mods



What happens if your avatar requires an outfit and you don't have the money for the free migration cape? Luckily, with the power of mods, you can create your own cape to bellow behind you while you walk! Mods such as the Advanced Capes Mod make it possible to obtain the most sought-after capes available in the game, or any cape that you can imagine.



There is a caveat that other players you interact with on multiplayer Minecraft servers aren't able to see your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. The only way to obtain caps that everyone can see is by waiting for official capes to be handed to you from Mojang as it migrates your account.
