There are a myriad of factors that can lead to miscommunications. Humans are divided into two categories. There are those who are "full-circle' who are a self-contained person who is completely at home all by his own. Sure, he needs an accomplice. Absolutely! It's all true! ... However, he will not be able to live without the right companion. When he has found the one he wants, he would like to live his life shoulder to shoulder with his hopefully complete circle - of friends.
The "half a circle" individuals on the opposite side have a partner. Once they have found the miserable creature that they have found, they won't let go! They will move to almost physically join the victim in order to create one happy circle... and do not give them the pleasure of living shoulder to shoulder! The Halves don't want to sacrifice anything other than staring one at the other from a distance of zero for the rest of their lives. Anything less intimate will fulfill their desire to be integrated with another half and create a whole.
The decision to let go of someone is an everyday occurrence. The full circle will naturally release themselves quickly from the person he has lost the chemistry of.
