Avanos Medical Cortrak*2 Ental Access System is designed for trained health professionals to place medical feeding tubes inside the stomachs or small bowels of patients that require nutritional support. In 2015, there has been 23 deaths attributed to feeding tubes.
Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 There have been many reports of patient injuries and deaths due to misalignment or misplacement of nasogastric, or the nasoenteric tubes. These devices are used to assist in the placement of their tubes.
This recall was utilized to create revisions to the device’s labels, including instructions for use and intended purposes. The new instructions tell users to confirm the placement of the tube as per their institution’s protocols before using them to deliver nutrition.
Avanos Medical feeding tube Patients are at risk of suffering severe injuries or even death as a result of incorrectly inserted nasogastric and nasoenteric tubes.
Avanos Medical has issued a recall communication stating that since 2015, there has been 60 patient deaths and 23 injuries due to misplacement nasogastric feeding tube. Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Pneumothorax (collapsed lung), pneumothorax ("collapsed lung"), perforation ("hole in the wall, or the bowels of the lung), pneumonia (a bacteria-related infection that affects the lung) and the pleural liquid (excess fluid between the lungs.
Avanos Medical sent a field correction notice on March 21st 2022 to all customers who had used the devices between January 2021 and January 2022. The following instructions were contained in the notification.
Confirm placements of nasogastric/nasoenteric tubes according to the institutional guidelines
Attach the correct field notice relating to the problem to the operator's manual.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos Medical will provide the acknowledgment form that was included in the email notice.
