These Minecraft Ancient City Redesigns Are Gloriously Green

Minecraft builders are renovating 1.19 update's cities from the past as if they never got destroyed.

As if the deep dark were not enough, brave builders are out here pulling off complete redesigns of Minecraft 1.19's massive new ancient cities. Just some light construction in between other projects.

The vast, ruined structures that lie deep underground are frightening. They have ruinous pillars that abound in the darkness, covered with sculk blocks and shriekers that call a warden to summon you if your feet don't touch their territory.

Perhaps the wardens are just angry because their homes have fallen into disrepair. These builders are restoring old cities to their glory of the past. Some have been completely remodeled with lush cave vegetation to show they used to be living cities that could sustain life. Others have added lore of their own and light up the darkness with a plethora of bright blocks. At least one decided to keep the atmosphere dark. Perhaps ancient cities were always risky. The most audacious builders have completed their construction in a hardcore mode, not creative. I'm not going to do that.

Most of these builds get support for their lively appearance by the top Minecraft shaders and Minecraft texture packs. I've collected some of the coolest old city designs and city structures currently available, and include a the link to the designer who came up with the designs. As always, this is just the latest in amazing Minecrafting. We've also gathered up some stunning desert temple redesigns as well as underwater bases and many more of the best Minecraft designs.

Unsorted Guy restores an old city back to its former splendor. In this build showcase (opens in new tab), Unsorted Guy explains the process he followed to replace all the sculk blocks with deepslate, transformed the ceilings into stalactites, and then brought in tons of vines and leaves from the lush caves. Unsorted Guy also relocates grass blocks, excavates a stream, and creates his own version of an old city farm. The place was truly full of life once. With all that water, the final construction definitely has a sort of mysterious mountain city vibe to it.

This Andyisyoda reimagined city is giving me huge Atlantis impressions. There's also lots of greenery added to the scene. I suppose no one would want to believe that these underground cities were always gray and drab, do you?

In the build timelapse embedded above you can watch Andyisyoda constructing high-fantasy bridges across an ocean of water and dripping with vines. They also kept some of the spookiness alive with the lava moat that runs around the giant portal. In the end there's an entire sunken city, surrounded by towers, huge draping greenery and walls of lights.

As if creating an entire city from scratch wasn't difficult enough, Fixxitt412 has done it all in hardcore survival mode, which means there is no life after death over the course of 100 days. Fixxitt's construction is also very green with manicured areas filled with flowers and farms. However, they haven't removed all the sculk completely, which is nice.

The building has a magical feeling to it, with lots of lights and stained glass emanating from the copper conduits at the top of the central portal. They even have houses for villagers to live in the darkness. I wonder how long they'll survive.

Another lush subterranean city was built by RandomGgames (opens in new tab) and OceanManRulesZaWardo. The one that is more overgrown and may even be as abandoned as other ancient cities. Like the other gorgeous green structures, it utilizes a lot of vines and leaves, bringing in some classic old glowstone blocks for lighting. The two seem to have removed all sculk in the area and replaced it with wood walkways, deepslate arches, and other landscaping elements.

This "build" is actually just two screenshots (opens in new tab), not a fully-fledged undercity, but it's such an awesome image that I couldn't help to share it with all the other inspo-seekers in the room.

This is the complete opposite of all the calming green and serene recreations that Seggie has created of the ancient city. nbjyxspa.com Seggie could have made this area more frightening than a Nether fortress had the possibility ever came up. The skull archway and the blue flames look foreboding.

Okay I'm not sure if this is an actual Minecraft build at all. This Lego set is based on Veyniac540's ancient cities (opens in a new tab). It's very cool. If you're interested in building it yourself, they have the steps and list of parts (opens new tab). Once you're done playing Minecraft There are also parts and instructions to help you.
