Hackers have attacked the Danish government's plan to recreate the entire country with the popular computer game Minecraft.

Officials confirmed that large cities including Copenhagen were damaged by users who smuggled virtual dynamite into the Danish region.

The Danish government is being pressured to rebuild parts of the city.

Danish officials have acknowledged that "Several large Danish towns were razed to the ground, and many new structures were constructed all around the place."

The first country to be fully transplanted into the blocky Minecraft games The government was hoping it could help make lessons more fun for students.

It even came up with a series of lessons plans for teachers to assist them in navigating the virtual version of their country.

Initial reports of the destruction claimed that whole cities had been ruined.

However the claims have since been dismissed.

"The cities aren't fully levelled to the ground. It's just MINOR areas," said Chris Hammekenof the Danish GeoData Agency

"We believe that one of the benefits of playing Minecraft is that elements are broken down and new ones are being made.

"We will not restart the demonstration of Denmark on Minecraft.

"Occasionally, we'll also reconstruct minor areas if structures are removed and nothing new is made.'

"We have created Denmark online in Minecraft so that young people could plant their own forests build a riding school, lake or biogas plant, windturbine, and so on," said Kirsten Brosbol (Danish Minister of the Environment) at the official launch of the project.

"Pupils believe it's more fun to work on their own street, house, and so on.
