Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall for 629 units of CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System, a feeding tube placement device linked to dozens of deaths and injuries.
The devices were released between April 1st, 2016 and January 1, 2022. https://devpost.com/johannessenlarkin275 These devices can be utilized by health professionals to put feeding tubes into the stomach or intestines.
Incorrect placement of nasogastric and Nasoenteric tube was responsible for 53 deaths and 60 injuries in the past year.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system The recall helps modify the label of the device to remind users to check that the tube has been correctly placed before delivering nutrition.
According to FDA, "Adverse events include respiratory failure, pneumothorax perforation (a hole or puncture within the lung wall, esophagus or bowel), pneumonia, lung infection, and pleural effusion ("excess fluid that is accumulating between the lungs and the chest cavity),"
