Minecraft 1.18 release date: what's in store for Caves and Cliffs Part 2?

When will Minecraft 1.18 be released? The monumental Caves and Cliffs update will forever alter the Minecraft worlds with incredible new blocks, fresh resources and stunning world generation changes.

Here are the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 and the most recent information about Minecraft 1.18.

Minecraft 1.18 release date

Minecraft 1.18 will be available on November 30th

for both Java and Bedrock editions, as announced on Minecraft.net. This update is part 2 of the Caves and Cliffs update. 1.17 was originally planned to release it as a whole package. But Mojang decided to split up Caves and Cliffs across two major updates, to give themselves more time to work on the huge changes these releases will bring to Minecraft.

And I am talking about massive. Caves and Cliffs part 1 added over 90 new types of blocks; new creatures such as Glow Squid, Goats, and Axolotls; and new tools such as Lightning Rods and Spyglasses. Caves and Cliffs part 2 will completely alter Minecraft's terrain generation and fill the most secluded levels with all kinds of new resources and oddities. Let's look at the highlights of the Minecraft 1.18 update's list of features.

Terrain changes: exploring below Y=0

In Minecraft 1.18 the world generation is being overhauled and for the first time in history.

You'll be able dig below the Y-Level 0.

.

The new lowest depth is -64. below Y=0, you'll be in the known as the "Deepslate layer", where stone-like blocks transform into deepslate blocks. This is also true for ore veins as well Below Y=0, you will find copper, gold and iron in deepslate veins.
GAMES

The new underground terrain generation changes will allow you to discover many new cave structures in Minecraft 1.18. The brand-new Deep Dark biome was going to be part of the Caves and Cliffs changes, however, the biome has been delayed - along with its dangerous resident Warden Warden to the release of Minecraft 1.19 which is the Wild Update.

The changes in terrain will also require you to start looking elsewhere for Diamonds. Find out more about this with our guide on how to find Diamonds in Minecraft.

Towering mountains

Minecraft 1.18 is currently being revamped. Now, mountains are created in a different manner. Instead of having only one or two "extreme hills" or "mountain" biomes There are now five sub-biomes that make up the different layers in each mountain.

- Mountain Meadow (Y=100-140): home to flowers and sweet berry shrubs The Mountain Grove (Y=110-140): snowy and home to rabbits as well as Polar bears. - Snowy Slopes, Y=140-170: home to goats. - Lofty Peaks (Y=170+) are high peaks of snow, stone and ice. - Snow Capped Peaks (Y=170+): same as Lofty Peaks but cold enough to allow Packed Ice as well.

Pay pay attention to the Y-Levels and you'll notice that 1.18 increases the maximum height of mountains. Prior to that, they were limited to around Y=140 however now they can go up to the limit of Y=255. This is an excellent alternative for castles and towers on mountain tops.

There aren't many mountains that will be this tall, but only the highest mountain ranges will sport the new Lofty Peaks and Snow Capped Peaks biomes. These changes to terrain will bring a new sense of exploration and discovery to any 1.18 Minecraft world. You can bet I'll be hard at work to refresh our list of the best Minecraft seeds when the second part of Caves and Cliffs comes out!

Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave biomes

Caves and Cliffs part 2 which dives back to the ground and brings two cave types: The Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave.

Lush Caves are temperate caves filled with moss, vines, and more exotic flora such as Glow Berries, Azalea trees, Spore Blossoms and roots and dripleaf, a brand new type of block that can only hold a player's weight for a short period before tipping over and let the person fall. It seems like Lush Caves are gonna be perfect locations for parkour. I can't wait for the best Minecraft shader pack to show me these beautiful caves.

Dripstone Caves are home to the Dripstone blocks. These blocks naturally grow from the process of drips to create organic stalagmites and stalactites. Apart from this amazing terrain feature Dripstone Caves function like any other cave, but they'll no doubt be sought-after for the dripstone.

What are the other features that were promised in Caves and Cliffs Part 2?

A number of notable additions that were originally scheduled to be released in Minecraft 1.18 were delayed. They will now reach us in Minecraft 1.19 at the most recent. This will likely drop around 2022. These include the Warden Sculk Blocks the Deep Dark biome, and Sculk Blocks.

It's also been confirmed that at least three of the deferred features (namely Bundles, Archaeology, and Goat Horns) won't be included in the Wild Update either, though the Minecraft team is trying to assure us that none of these features are cancelled. It's a bit of a disappointment for those who were most excited by these changes, but at least we'll soon have the chance to explore the vast new terrain changes that Minecraft 1.18 will bring.

That's a wrap on the major features and details of Minecraft's upcoming 1.18 update. Until then, the best way to alter the look of your world and inject the excitement back into the game is to install one of the best Minecraft texture packs. If you're looking for something completely different from your typical single player world, why not check out one of the many fantastic Minecraft servers currently available?
