How to Stay Safe Online

Your Xbox Live account will give you access to numerous settings that will allow you and your family members to play online in the way you like. You can manage all of your settings at account.xbox.com/settings but here's a rundown of the most important ones:

"JOIN MULTIPLAYER GAME" SETTINGS

If your settings are that block you from joining multiplayer games, you can't join multiplayer games in Minecraft which includes shared local worlds, Realms or servers. To enable multiplayer in Minecraft make sure that this setting is set to Allow.'

"OTHERS can communicate using voice, TEXT, OR INVITES" Setting up

If you have your settings to block communication with others, you will still be in a position to play in multiplayer experiences across Minecraft however, you won't be able view messages in chat from other players, or receive invitations to join other players' games.

Child Accounts - UNDER 13S

You must have parental consent to sign up for an Xbox Live account if you are younger than 13 years old. Parents can add a child account at https://account.microsoft.com/family/addmember.

All accounts of children are automatically blocked from communication and multiplayer. This means that children's accounts are not able to play in other players' worlds, Realms, servers, or chat with others online until their parents log in to change the settings to enable multiplayer.

General Tips to Stay Safe ONLINE IN MINECRAFT

There are plenty of great guides on how to stay safe online (here's one we'd recommend!) Here are a few Minecraft-specific advice.

DO NOT SHARE YOUR XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT PASSWORD

Your account does not only contain your personal information, but also, if you have an account with Realm or have made a purchase on the marketplace, it is the record of your online purchases in Minecraft. It is not recommended to share your Xbox Live account password.

THERE'S NO WAY TO GET FREE MINECRAFT COINS OR MARKETPLACE CONTENT

Anyone who asks for account details or personal information and promises you Minecraft Coins or content in exchange is doing no good! There is no other way to obtain Coins, marketplace content, or to transfer Coins to another person other than through the game.
