What is The Minecraft Speedrun World Record

After a scandalous cheating scandal Dream's time was removed from the leaderboard. While Dream has stated he will no longer be submitting his time to speedrun.com and other bigger creators continue to compete for the fastest time possible.



In December of 2020, Dream had one of his speedrun records in the Minecraft 1.16+ glitch-free category, which was removed from the official leaderboards. The Minecraft Speedrun Team launched an investigation spanning several months of Dream's run, which was 15th place on the leaderboard at the time. The verdict stated that Dream's luck in obtaining item drops was beyond what was reasonable, and that he must have tampered with the game's code to increase the drop rate of certain items. While Dream still claims the game was not rigged however, the run is still unrecorded on the leaderboards.

While Dream might have left speedrunning, there are many who would like to be the best. The Minecraft 1.16+ glitch-free run at any percent is an extremely active category on speedrun.com with new records being set every week. Twitch streamer Reignex set a new record for the Minecraft 1.16+ glitch-free category on January 30, 2021. Reignex was capable of beating the game in 14 minutes, 10 seconds and 600 milliseconds. They are one of four speedrunners to complete this feat in less than 15 minutes, and they currently hold the record by a margin of 10 seconds. It would be impossible to reduce any time from this race without a lot of luck. Each run is affected by luck.



This race was also part of the random seed category which means that the player has to generate a new Minecraft world each time they run. Instead of mapping out their runs beforehand the player must play by instinct in order to win the game as quickly as possible. The goal of the runner is to beat a new world every run.
