It's looking unlikely Minecraft will meets the August release date on PS4 after it failed Sony's certification tests. The game is now back at the fixing board at 4J Studios. The team will have to submit the game again for certification before it's released.
4J's been busy fixing issues and squishing bugs throughout the month, not just for the PS4 version, but also in the upcoming Xbox One and Vita releases too. We've contacted the studio to confirm that there is a delay, and whether that'll only affect the PS4 version or other platforms as well. The three ports are due for release this month.
Sony discovered some issues in #MinecraftPS4's final test. We are working to fix them, however we must go through the entire procedure again.
- 4J Studios (@4JStudios) August 20, 2014 When they do hit the shelves, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Mojang's game will be priced at $20 on digital storefronts. The owners of downloaded Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be capable of upgrading to Xbox One and PS4 respectively at a cost of $5. The offer will be valid for at least one year after the release date. The new ports will offer larger worlds and more draw distance than previous console releases.
For the Vita version it's cross-buy compatible with PS3 which means that those who purchased Minecraft on the console will get the handheld version for free, and new buyers will unlock the game on both PS3 and Vita. Similar to other ports, the asking price to grind your pickaxe on Vita is $20.
