The Minecraft Phantom is a flying hostile mob, preying on those that have gone over three days in the game without sleeping for a week. Their beady green eyes can be able to spot you from a distance away, so be ready.



The trail of grey puffs that a Minecraft Phantom leaves behind is a trail of smoke. It is possible to observe in creative mode since it doesn't strike. The Minecraft Phantom is prone to taking more damage if hit with an enchanted sword smite or damaged by the immediate health effect. They arehowever immune to poison and invert the effects of instant damage potions.



They attack by swooping downwards, and they aren't able to stay in one place for too long. This makes it difficult to make an effective hit with your bow. A sword is the most effective way to strike down the ghost, or you could bring in your wolf that you have tamed. If all else fails the ghost isn't one of the cats, and is usually kept at about 16 blocks away from cats - it will flee if your tamed cat hisses.





Minecraft phantom spawning

There is a difference in the way Phantoms spawn in Java and Bedrock editions. The official Minecraft Wiki has more details.



In the Java eiditon Minecraft Phantoms appear in the Overworld during the night or during a storm. They will always spawn above you, making it difficult to avoid these ominous creatures. If you're struggling with insomnia and have gone for more than three days without sleeping, you can expect to hear the hollow cries of a phantom as it covers the sky over you. To add insult to injury, phantoms are more inclined to reproduce if you don't get enough sleep.



To spawn a Phantom, you must be at sea level and not have any blocks that block light. The phantom's maximum light capacity is two, therefore it must be below this level in order to be spawned in Minecraft. It is possible to hear the flapping wings and squeak of 1-6 Phantoms. These will appear between 20 and 34 blocks higher than you.
