Diablo Immortal Bug Puzzles Players Again, with Reduced EXP

A Diablo Immortal bug is perplexing players of the RPG game again. The cause this time is a random decrease in EXP earned from enemies when farming. Some of the game's most committed grinding players have been trying to figure out what is causing the issue, which is causing farming to be less efficient due to random inconsistencies with the earned experience value.



Reddit user staplepies shared his research about the subject to the game's subreddit. After some time spent researching the topic, Staplepies claims they are among the most renowned American game farming experts. They were among the first to achieve paragon level 150.



The examples are for the Shassar Oasis zone, however Staplepies says that the bug "happens everywhere I've tested to some degree." Due to their high paragon level (generally 13 to 14 levels above the server paragon levels) the amount of experience they earn is already lower than the base amount, meaning that they're only expecting to earn 10% of the default amount This is normal, and is Diablo Immortal's method of keeping a server's population levelling at roughly similar pace.



Staplepies observed oddities in their log's experience values. Shassar Oasis has three distinct enemies: Dust Imps (54XP), Drubs (48% XP) and Sand Golems (1129 XP). These three numbers should only appear in the location where everything is normal. Spidermangaming (Staplepies states that the bug also affects elite mobsts but they've kept the numbers very simple).



They then show a series of increasingly bizarre numbers appearing in a variety of ways, some marginally lower for instance, an Dust Imp awarding 42 experience instead of the expected 54, but others dropping as low as 1 or 2 experience for mobs. Staplepies states that "when things get extremely bad, you will see kills and runs in which every single one is affected by a bug." In addition, the bug can affect the experience globes, which can drop randomly and may not always correspond to the bugs in the kill experience value.



Staplepies also did testing in a social setting, and said that the bug affects everyone in the group, but not at same time or with the same values as one another. It can happen when you play as a solo player or in groups, and it doesn't seem affected by proximity or size. They also made sure that random numbers weren't coming from quests or events.



There are other causes that they are pondering in their mind - Staplepies says they have noticed a higher proportion of bugs in experience values in specific zones, and that the percentage of experience values that are bugged is different at different times of the day. They're now considering whether player activity in a particular zone or server is responsible for the issue - maybe an overloaded player could cause an issue in the code, for example.



Whatever the cause it's becoming a challenge for farmers who are dedicated to their farming. The ability to increase the paragon level can be one of the most effective ways to compete without spending a lot of money - Staplepies describe themselves as a "lowish budget" player, but claims they can compete against players at 3-5x their resonance level for a number of days by being the first to reach a new paragon level until other players catch up.
