Doom is Literally Playing in this Article

We've covered all kinds of Doom ports here, from Minecraft to McDonald's cash registers, and this could be the most bizarre. You can see the FPS game in action below, thanks to a user who successfully run the game in the format of gif.



It operates in a straightforward way. On this page, you'll see a continually evolving Gif of Doom with a set clickable controls below. Similar to how Twitch games that use games that are controlled by the crowd, every input that's clicked by any user using the website is put into a queue and the server then runs through the queue in order, and then sends back the updated images. A1host This does make the gif itself a bit unstable, between the constant loading, and sheer pressure on the server from people trying to see the image.



Andrew Sillers, a software developer, is the one behind all the magic. He provided a talk explaining what's happening at BangBangCon. Every time a website loads an image, it does it through a piece of code that's requesting that image. Gifs can be used to create loops in which new frames are added every frame is received. With this basic concept along with a few commands you can play a videogame such as a narrative adventure or a roguelike or Doom.
