With the backing of billions from Microsoft, Minecraft's momentum is not slowing. The game is now supported by VR and has lets players fine-tune their worlds by adding Add-Ons. The movie has an expected release date (although it's set for 2019) and soon it's going to be its own novel. Mojang has confirmed that Minecraft: The Island is the brand new book. It was written by Max Brooks, who also wrote the post-apocalyptic novel World War Z.

It's not known yet when the book will be released or if it will have ties to the film, however it appears that it will be the first of many. Publishing house Del Rey -- the science fiction offshoot of Penguin Random House -- is overseeing everything and the company has stated that it's "fortunate to have someone with Max's incredible talent and passion to be on board for the debut of the series."
While parents are likely to be liable for more however, there are some who will be grateful that the Minecraft brand is expanding its reach into the field of education. Minecraft: Education Edition will aid teachers starting November 1st, and the release of the novel will only enhance children's enthusiasm for reading.
