A request is any action made by a browser to view a web page. For example, when you click on a link in an email message, that is a request. A request may also be made by a search engine to find a web page. If you have a blog or a web site, then you will most likely have more than one request made each day.

If you want to control access to the files in your web site, you need to put a configuration file called htaccess in the root folder of your web site. This file controls access to all of the files on your web site except the index.html file which is always accessed.

The htaccess file contains three lines of code. These lines tell the server what to do with the request.

1) Allow access to the file.
2) Deny access to the file.
3) Rewrite the URL to another location.

The first line allows access to the file. This is done by adding a "RewriteEngine On" statement.

The second line denies access to the file. This line says "do not allow access to this file". The third line tells the server to rewrite the URL so that the request goes to another location.
If you are editing the htaccess file, you need to know how to add the "Allow" and "Deny" statements. To add the "Allow" statement, simply add "Allow from.example.com" at the end of the line. The "Deny" statement is added by adding "Deny from.example.com" to the end of the line.

To add a "RewriteEngine On", add "RewriteEngine On" at the end of the first line. Then add "RewriteBase /" at the end of the second line.
