Avanos Medical has recalled Cortrak*2 EAS following reports of deaths or injuries from nasogastric tube misplacements.
The device allows healthcare professionals to insert medical feeding tubes inside patients.
However, improper placement of nasogastric/nasoenteric tubs can cause serious injuries or even death.
The company recalls 629 devices sold throughout the US between January 2016 to January 2022.
The recall notification from the company said that 60 patients had been injured and 23 were killed due to misplacement in nasogastric tubes while making use of Cortrak* 2 EAS.
Avanos Medical is updating the labelling on the device after the recall. Avanos Medical feeding tube This will include updating instructions regarding the use and intended uses of Cortrak*2 EAS.
