We found that 24-25 players is the best number for starting your season. We mix and match until we have the right number for every team. My personal teams lose one player before the season starts. They decide that playing football is not for a good fit. We lose 1 player per game as the season progresses due to illness, injuries, grades, etc. So most for games and practices we have about 22-23 kids available. This number is perfect for me. 22 kids means that I have 11 on 11, during our football practice fit and freeze drills. If we have 22 members of the team, we can play our football plays against a scout team of 11 players.
