Balance Your Fixed Limit Poker Strategy
The rules of poker can be overwhelming at first, especially for a novice. The poker chips, poker rules, betting and pace surely got me confused when I first started, but like anything, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Texas hold em poker rules don't easily lend themselves to a strategy, at first, so reading up on how the pros look at it really started to give me an angle.

From the moment you sit down you only ever bet/raise out. Never ever fold and never ever call. Always bet a minimum of 3xbb, usually 4xbb or 5xbb. Your opponent's chip stack also makes a huge difference, not only to the size of your bet, but as to whether or not you will bet at all. If you make a pre-flop raise of $300 and your opponent calls with only $300 left in his stack, he is pot-committed and you will not be able to bluff him after the flop. Realize this and either flop or be prepared to put him all in.

For low entry fee online tournament players I saw this book as a glimmer of hope in that someone may have put forth some thought in to how to actually win tournaments consistently at that level. It seemed to me though that playing "small ball" poker with clusters of players who have little regard for position and the real value of hole cards might be an interesting experience, but not profitable.

Finally, every continuation bet you make keeps your opponents guessing. Sometimes you're betting with nothing and other times you're betting with strong hands. You want to keep it mixed up so that in the end your opponents are more likely to call when you have strong hands and to fold when you have weak hands.

Being in the small blind can also be beneficial to you. This is because you are almost the last person to bet pre-flop, and the first person to bet post-flop. So let's say visit here is still pre-flop. The whole table checks around to you. Here is a good opportunity to raise the pot, as well as some attention. You make a bet about the size of the pot and get a few people to call. The flop comes and it is all low cards. Now is a good time to make a large bet and steal the blinds.
