Avanos Medical recalls Cortrak*2 EAS following reports of injuries and death due to tube incorrect placement.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified the recall of Avanos Medical's Cortrak* 2 Enteral Access System (EAS) as a Class I recall.
The Class 1 recall is the most severe of three classes.
Avanos Medical has recalled Cortrak*2 EAS following reports of injuries or deaths due to misplacements of the nasogastric tube.

It also provides in real-time information about tube placement.
But, the incorrect placement of nasogastric and nasoenteric tubes could damage a patient's vocal cords, lungs or trachea and cause severe injuries or death.
The company has been able to recall 629 devices in the US that were sold between 1 April 2016 - 1 January 2022.

In the wake of the recall Avanos Medical will update the labeling of the device. Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 This will include updating instructions for use and intended usages of Cortrak*2 EAS.
Avanos Medical The updated guidelines require users to verify the position of tubes according to protocols of their institutions before using the tubes.
Avanos Medical, based in Alpharetta Georgia in the United States, is a manufacturer of medical devices that are clinically proven. The company markets its recognised brands in over 90 countries.
In December of last year the company signed a $160 million deal to acquire OrthogenRx. Avanos Medical concluded the acquisition on the 20th of January.
