Avanos Medical called off Cortrak* 2 EAS in response to patient injury and deaths caused by tube misplacements.
The US Food and Drug Administration has confirmed Avanos Medical's Cortrak*2 Enal Access System Recall (EAS) as Class I recall.

Avanos Medical called off Cortrak* 2, EAS, due to deaths and injuries resulting from the misplacement of tubs for nasogastric surgery.
The device is intended to aid trained health care personnel place medical tube feedings within patients, and provide the most current information about tube placement.

The company has recalled 629 devices distributed throughout the US between January 2016 to January 2022.
The company recall communication stated that 60 patients were injured and 23 died due to misplacement in nasogastric tubes while using Cortrak* 2 EAS.

The updated guidelines also instruct users to confirm tube placement in accordance with the institution's protocol prior to use.
