Let me tell you about my trip last year on a boat through the Arctic. It was an amazing, National Geographic journey thru the ice and back with polar bears, and many more wildlife. There was going to be snow everywhere, ice everywhere. Machines made by humans would have to fight the elements to get through the frigid north. It sounded incredible, like an epic fight with the weather and north.

I was told by my supervisor to bring with me everything I had access to. To extend my working space I packed my laptop. According to the experts, there was no electricity issue. I was not aware of what was going to take place. I had no idea that, just two days into my 14-day journey I would lose my Internet connection and be without internet for 10 days. I was completely shocked when it was over. Every trip should not, however complicated or remote, result in me to be cut off from the technological world. download twitch video Not only have I got an unfinished project to tackle during the next week, but I didn't adequately prepare myself for the time of downtime.

Nowadays, no one really cares about having to shut down. Internet is everywhere. If your home connection has temporary issues, you'll be able to locate a nearby McDonalds and use their free WiFi connection to complete whatever you want to do. You can bring your laptop to the nearby Starbucks and use their free WiFi connection to surf the Internet whenever you want. However, there is no cafe, restaurant or cafe can help you out up north. They're a long way from the closest shack, with the electricity produced by an ineffective generator. There's not a free Internet just around the corner.. There are two ways to escape in such circumstances. You could be offline or bring an internet connection via satellite.

I'm unable to afford a Sat phone. It's too expensive, particularly for Internet access. However, I'll create a plethora of collection of audio and video before venturing out into the dark without Internet. The last time I was on the road, I had two tracks. They were both downloaded in a very slow way in the past, so I was limited to 3 jazz songs and a famous track that I had no idea of the name of. All I can say is. Four songs for two weeks of Insanity. If I had known that this would happen, I would prepare. I would have packed my computer with TV shows, movies, and lots of music videos. I could spend hours listening to my favorite podcasts. It's very easy to download them, then convert into mp3s and then save on my computer. And then, I can simply lie in my bed and listen to the podcasts I like at home. It was my"golden hour, 2 weeks of gold. It ended up being 2 weeks filled with staring at ceilings and running from passengers to catch them each when they made a noise.


It was empty physically and metaphorically. I've never been this bored. I was aware that the ice was thick, and the boat was left with no choice but to turn around and get back to civilization. It was not a surprise. However, the hours of downtime could have been listening to podcasts, watching DIY videos on home repair, or simply listening to music. The next time I'll convert YouTube videos into MP4 and mp3 using my laptop. Music never makes you feel down. Remember that Hulu as well as Netflix apps are able to download shows and movies for you to watch offline. They are also able to be downloaded for the long trip across the Arctic. Don't give up hope.
