Bayrock Group: The Rise of a New York Real Estate Giant

Bayrock Group, along with the Trump Organization, opened Trump SoHo in 2008 along with the Sapir Organization. But the story of Bayrock Group's success starts in Kazakhstan decades before.

Bayrock Group was established in 2001, but the tale of its growth and success luxury real estate development company located in the United States is much older than the year 2001. Initially, the story begins on the other side the globe.

Tevfik Ariff, a Turkish-born native of Soviet Kazakhstan, founded Bayrock Group.

Before joining the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade Tevfik Arif received an academic degree in International Relations at the Moscow Trade and Economic Institute.


He was a minister for 17 year and then left to open his own business. Tevfik's ventures included the luxury food, real estate, and exports/imports and many others.

Tevfik Arif Tevfik Arif's numerous businesses allowed him to attract a large number of international partners. It was his networker that brought his company to Turkey in 1993 to become one of the pioneering factors in the development of Turkey's all-inclusive hotel concept.

He also opened, for instance, the Labada Hotel Antalya. This was before he moved on to his next venture that was a couple of years later across the Atlantic.

Bayrock Group gets more ambitious

Tevfik Arif moved to the United States in 2001 to explore new business paths and to be closer to his American family members.

Following his move, he founded the luxury realty development firm Bayrock Group in New York City.

At first, Bayrock Group executed small to medium-sized construction projects in and around New York. Bayrock Group, for example, remodeled Loehmann’s Seaport Plaza in Brooklyn's Sheepshead.

Tevfik Arif Bayrock Bayrock Group was off to an excellent start, and this made Tevfik arif increasingly eager. He was looking for bigger projects and altered the approach of the business to focus it on its core business.

Bayrock Group, New York City's office moved to the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue as part of its latest strategy.

This move yielded a lot more than just a change in place of business because it placed the company near the Trump Organization. The well-known family business was located in the same building.

Bayrock Trump SoHo gets shape

Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization shared the vision of developing luxury real estate developments So, the two companies decided to join forces.

Tevfik Arif Doyen Tevfik Arif was aware the Trump Organization's involvement in this project would give the building a brand identity that Bayrock Group or the Sapir Organization didn't have.

Arif made an agreement in which he provided the Trump Organization 18% equity in this building , in exchange for the Trump brand being used to promote its name.

The three parties to the deal, Bayrock Group and Trump Organization were in agreement.

This opened the door to the first Trump SoHo brick to be laid in the year 2006.

The building was completed following two years of laborious work.

Trump SoHo was built by design veterans

Trump SoHo opened in Manhattan and offered the hotel rooms, apartments and upscale bars and restaurants. It also featured a swimming pool, a spa and banquet halls. Through the hotel's floor-to- ceiling windows, guests could enjoy breathtaking views of New York City.

Handel Architects was tasked by the design of the construction. The famous architect firm has also created the National September 11th Memorial & Museum as well as the Ritz Hotel Carlton located in Washington, D.C.

Bayrock Group hired Rockwell Group, to handle interior design.

Rockwell Group was responsible for the design of the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle and the Seven Deadly Sins theatre in New York.

The firm has also worked dealing with countries around the world, such as Mexico, Spain, and Indonesia.

Bayrock Group and Trump Organization expand their partnership

Following the opening in Trump SoHo, The Trump Organization was looking to improve their partnership with Bayrock Group.

Their vision was to construct buildings like Trump SoHo in Arizona and Florida. Tevfik Arif Trump Organization was also granted the same license conditions and was left with 18% equity in the building. This will allow Trump to be added in the building's name.

Despite the goals of both firms they didn't get the structures because of the global financial crisis.

Tevfik Alif, one of the Tevfik Arif employee in the United States, decided to leave his American ventures due to the effects of the economic crisis. He chose to go back to Europe and Central Asia.

He continued his work in the private sector.

Tevfik has resigned today from all of his Bayrock Group daily responsibilities. However, he is still an acknowledged consultant for the company.

Tevfik Arif Bayrock Group has not been involved in any American real estate ventures in recent times However, during the time it was in the market the firm was investing in real estate assets worth $2.5 million in the United States.
