Do You Want To Try Putting Out The Great Fire Of London In MINECRAFT?

It was a catastrophe the likes of which London had never experienced before that began with a fire that broke out in an East End bakery in July 1666.

The fire quickly spread and continued to burn for several days, engulfing large areas of the city and claiming thousands.

Today, players can get the first-person perspective of The Great Fire of London, thanks to a range of specially-designed maps that can be played with the popular game Minecraft.

With a variety of maps designed specifically for Minecraft gamers can experience an insider's view of the Great Fire of London.

MINECRAFT FIRE MAPS

The Museum of London has produced the Minecraft maps to commemorate 350 years since the blaze started.

Players can navigate the burning city through a series of mini games.

The second map will show how the fire spread throughout the city. It will be released next month.

Participants will be able relive the Great Fire through a number of mini games as tongues of flame burn in the world of blocks.

You can play as an editor for the London Gazette.

The second map, which is scheduled to be released next month will show the way the fire started in the bakery of Thomas Farriner (pictured) and spread through the city.

Participants will be able relive the Great Fire through a number of mini games, joining fire fighters battling the flames with traditional tools of the trade, including recreations of a 17th Century fire truck (pictured) and leather buckets

They can then walk through various terrains, including mountains, forests and caves. For a birds-eye view players can fly in the air.

With the Oculus Rift, now available players can now experience virtual reality.

Joshua Blair, the museum's digital learning coordinator, said that the first map in the Great Fire1666 series let us make visitors feel part of London's history and the times of 1666. We were able recreate the narrow streets and iconic landmarks like St Paul's Cathedral or London Bridge to create the setting for the fire.

He added: "This second map is where you'll discover the Great Fire story. We hope that our visitors are interested in learning more about this important event in the history of London.

According to its creators the mini-games draw in historical figures including King Charles II, Thomas Farriner - whose bakery ignited the fire and also the famous diarist Samuel Pepys, who documented the fire.

The museum's Great Fire 1666 exhibit which is on display until April 2017, will feature the game.

Players will be able to download the new maps for PC and Mac from 2 September.
