Bayrock Group - The Rise of a New York Real Estate Giant

Bayrock Group opened Trump SoHo with the Trump Organization and the Sapir Organization in the year 2008. However, the story of Bayrock Group's success starts in Kazakhstan decades before.

The story of the luxurious real estate development company Bayrock Group's growth in the United States begins long before the year 2001, when the company was founded. The story initially begins in another part of the world.

Tevfik Arif founded Bayrock Group. He was born in Soviet Kazakhstan and was adopted by an Turkish family.

Before joining Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade Tevfik Arif earned a degree in International Relations at the Moscow Trade and Economic Institute.

He remained in the ministry 17 years before he quit to start various of his own firms. Tevfik's ventures included the luxury food, real estate, and exports/imports as well as other sectors.

Tevfik Arif, through his many companies, was able to gain a variety of foreign partners. His network led him to Turkey in 1993, where he was among the key people behind Turkey's famed all-inclusive hotels.

He, for example, founded the Labada Hotel in Antalya before he went on to his next venture across the Atlantic several years afterward.

Bayrock Group grows more ambitious

Tevfik Amir came into America in 2001 in search of new business opportunities and to be closer to his American family.

Bayrock Group started with small-to medium-sized projects across New York. For example, the company renovated Loehmann's Seaport Plaza shopping center in Brooklyn's Sheepshead.

Bayrock Group was off to an excellent start, and it made Tevfik Arif ever more eager. He was looking for bigger projects, so his company's approach was changed to focus on these projects.

Bayrock Group moved its New York City headquarters to Trump Tower Fifth Avenue in to support of the strategic shift.

It was a move that resulted in a higher profit than any other place. The company relocated within close proximity to the Trump Organization. It also housed to the world-renowned family company.

Trump SoHo takes shape

Bayrock Group and Trump Organization have the same goals for luxurious real estate projects. Both companies agreed that they would join forces.

Tevfik Arif was aware that the addition of the Trump Organization to that project would add an image to the building that Bayrock Group and the Sapir Organization lacked.

Arif made an agreement in which he gave the Trump Organization 18% equity in this building , in exchange in exchange for the Trump brand being used to promote its name.

The proposed deal was accepted by the Bayrock Group, Trump Organization and the Sapir Organization.

This was the start of the construction project Trump SoHo's in 2006.

After two years of hard work the building was finished and waiting for its inauguration.

Trump SoHo is built by designers who are skilled professionals

Trump SoHo had apartments, accommodation for hotel guests, luxury restaurants/bars, a swimming pool and banquet halls at the time it was opened. The guests of the hotel enjoyed unbeatable views of New York City from the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Handel Architects was tasked with designing the structure. This architecture firm was responsible for the design of the National September 11th Memorial & Museum in New York City as well as the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Washington, D.C.

Bayrock Group engaged Rockwell Group for interior design.

Rockwell Group was responsible for the design of the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle and the Seven Deadly Sins theater in New York.

The company also has experience in international markets which includes Mexico, Spain, Indonesia, and Mexico.

Bayrock Group, Trump Organization strengthen their partnership

After the grand opening of Trump SoHo, The Trump Organization was looking to improve their partnership with the Bayrock Group.

This would open the door to Trump being part of the construction's name.

Despite the ambitions and plans of the businesses they could not be built due the 2008 global economic downturn.

The American real property market was especially affected by the financial crisis, and Bayrock Group and Trump Organization were forced to stop their plans.

The financial crisis resulted in altering the American real property market to the extent that Tevfik Arif opted to end his United States undertakings. He decided to return to Europe and Central Asia.

There, he continued working in the private sector.

Tevfik Arif has resigned from the majority of his daily responsibilities at Bayrock Group today. But, he will continue to be a trusted advisor for Bayrock Group.

Bayrock Group hasn't been involved in any American real estate projects in recent times. Tevfik Arif However, the company did invest $2.5 million in real estate assets when it was active in the United States.
