Are you planning to take a long trip away from home? If WiFi isn't available, make sure you have enough digital content.
Here's a story about my last trip to the Arctic on a boat. It sounded amazing, National Geographic trip thru the ice and back with polar bears, and many other animals. There was going be the ice where eyes can see, snow, and ice everywhere. Man-made machinery was designed to combat the elements and navigate through the frozen northern wilderness. It sounded incredible, like an epic battle against the weather, north and pole.

I was advised by my boss to bring every piece of technology I could. To increase the space I work in, I packed my laptop. I was informed that power wasn't a problem. I was unsure what was about to take place. I was unaware that only two days into the 14-day journey I would find that my Internet connection would drop and I would lose internet for 10 consecutive days. It happened, and I was devastated. Every trip, however difficult or remote, should be an abrupt disconnect from the world of technology, not in 21st century. Not only I've had unfinished business to take care over the next week, but I also did not prepare for the time of the downtime.


It doesn't matter whether you are forced to disconnect. Internet is available wherever you are. If your connection at home goes down, you can always find the nearest McDonalds close by and avail of their free WiFi to get what you need. Bring your laptops and settle in the cafe at Starbucks for all eternity or sit down at a table and just surf the Internet to the extent you want. In the north, there's no cafe or restaurant to assist you. You're a long distance away from the nearest electricity source. There's not a free Internet. In these situations, there are two options for escape: prepare to be offline from home or bring a satellite internet connection.

A satellite phone is costly and I'm unable to afford it. Before I go out in the world of unknown, I'll have an extensive audio and video library. clip video converter In the past, I had two tracks. They were both downloaded in a very slow way at the time, and I only had three jazz songs and a famous song I didn't even know its title. That's all. 4 tunes for two weeks of nothingness. If I knew this would be the case I would have prepared. I would have packed my computer with TV shows, movies, and lots of music videos. I could spend hours listening to my most-loved podcasts. It's easy to download the podcasts, convert them into MP3 format and save them to my computer. It is then easy to lay down in my room and enjoy whatever it is I like to listen to at home, but don't have the time to. It would be my golden hour or 2 weeks of gold. But it was actually two weeks of staring into the ceiling and running to meet passengers every whenever a sound makes its way through the corridors..

The trip was devoid both literally and metaphorically. I've never been this bored. I knew that the ice was too thick and that the boat would have no choice but to turn around and go back to the shores of civilization. This was not a huge surprise however, it meant many hours could be spent listening to and watching DIY videos, podcasts for home repairs, or just listening to music. The next time, I'll convert YouTube videos from mp4 to MP3 format using my laptop. Bring these along to listen to your most loved songs right from your laptop. Music can help lift your spirits and lift your spirits, so don't let it derail you. Be aware that Netflix and Hulu apps allow you to download shows and movies to your computer to view offline. They can also be taken with you on long trips to the arctic. Don't let boredom bring you down. Best of luck!
