Poker Terms - A Basic Poker Glossary
The big blind generally has the same stake as the lower stake in a game of poker. The big blind is to your left of a small blind, who is to your left of a dealer.

This is a mandatory bet that is used in place the ante. There are two types of blinds in a game. The blinds form part of the player?s bet and are rotated around the table.

The dealer no burns another card face down and then deals out a single card face up. This is called the "turn". There are now four community cards on each side. Each player can use these cards as well as the two cards they hold to make their five card poker hand.

Omaha poker is played with a maximum of ten players. Each player receives four cards from the dealer. After four rounds worth of betting, each player is dealt four cards face-down. Five community cards are then placed face-up at the table. They are shared equally by all players. The player combines any two (of the four) cards from their hand with the community cards to make the best possible poker hand.

A pre-flop round of betting ensues, that is to say before the flop (or before the first three community cards are turned over), the small and big blinds are posted. The player to your left of the dealer posts the small blind. The player to your left of that blind posts the large blind. The big blind is twice as large as the small blind. You should also note that the big blind is equal the limit limit, while the small blind is half the limit. So if the limit is $10/20, the big blind is $10 and the small blind would be $5.

Each player is dealt two cards, one face up. Each player will use their two hole or pocket cards and five community poker cards to try to make the best possible five-card poker hand.
