GlyphosateIn the years to come our food supply will be safe: that is why farmers use glyphosate to cultivate crops sustainably.
It's not surprising that the population of the world is growing. It's no secret that the world's population is increasing. In 2050, the population will reach 9.7 million people.1 But, the amount of land that can be used for agriculture in the world isn't growing at the same rate as we do. This creates significant challenges for farmers accountable for providing food of high-quality for Canadians as well as other people around the world.

Canada is currently the fifth largest exporter of food globally.2 Canadian farmers are expected to play a significant role in providing the world the food that it needs. They'll have to be able to meet the growing demands.

In order to feed the growing number of people, farmers will require 70 percent more food sources by 2050. *Source: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. How to feed the planet by 2050

Farmers aren't able to meet this increasing demand all on their own. Technology and tools of the present, such as herbicides such as glyphosate can be used to help farmers effectively and precisely manage weeds, which results in more sustainable and secure food supply.

What is glyphosate exactly?

Glyphosate can be used as a non-selectiveand versatile herbicide by land managers as well as gardeners across the globe. It has been used for more than 40 years. It works by blocking the enzymes that plants, specifically unwanted weeds, require in order to develop. These enzymes do not exist in mammals or humans.4 Glyphosate does not pose any danger to plants when used correctly.

Glyphosate can also be used in other fields other that are not related to agriculture. It's utilized in urban areas to shield people and wildlife from toxic plants.6 It is also used on railroads to improve visibility for conductors and prevent accidents on the tracks.

Recently, attention has been focused on glyphosate's use in our modern lives and the way it's employed. While it's essential for us to inquire regarding the foods we eat, it's worth noting that more than 160 international regulatory agencies (including Health Canada) agree that glyphosate is safe to be employed when done properly.

Canadians will be able to comprehend what glyphosate does and how it operates and why it's so important for food production.

Glyphosate is a fertiliser that can be used to increase the yield of crops.

Glyphosate-based herbicides can be used in the field of agriculture, benefiting consumers, farmers, the environment, and everybody else. It is crucial to efficient weed-control, a secure food supply, sustainable environmental practices, and sustainable weed management. Let's look at each benefit in greater depth.

Globally, farmers are losing between 30-40% and 40 percent of their crops to diseases, pests, and weeds.9 According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) this losses could increase by a third if crop protection techniques are not used. It's a huge loss, particularly for farmers, who are able to claim that their crops are the basis of their livelihood.

Farmers are able to rely upon tools that they can trust year after year. Applying glyphosate to the fields- especially with glyphosate tolerant crops is a proven way to keep weeds that are destructive from taking over crops.9 As of now, no other weed control method offers the same level effectiveness, both economically and economically.

Crops against. weevils - the struggle for their existence

Glyphosate is a powerful ally for crop.

グリホサート Canadians and other shoppers around the globe reap the benefits of plentiful, inexpensive food choices

The population is growing, and a significant portion of the food-growing land is at risk of being unusable in less than 40 years due to desertification and land degradation.10 This is causing an increase in food security. Canadians will be paying 55% more for food if the latest agricultural innovations weren't implemented, including the use glyphosate.11

The foods we love would be more difficult to locate. Farmers can grow more of the foods we love for years due to the advancements in plant science.

グリホサート 分析方法 Glyphosate isn't just used to control weeds and keep affordable food items at the store, though. Glyphosate is also used by farmers to manage what Cherilyn Joy-Nagle of Mossbank in Saskatchewan calls "their greatest asset"--their property.

Farmers can flourish with the use of crop protection tools, such as glyphosate to protect crops from pests and disease.

42% more grains, including wheat and corn

72% more fruit

83% More vegetables and potatoes12

These benefits are obvious. But is glyphosate safe?

https://www.env.go.jp/water/dojo/noyaku/odaku_kijun/rv/gurihosato.pdf Simply put it, absolutely. Like all pesticides , you should always follow the directions on the label. In Canada Glyphosate usage is controlled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) which checks crops for pesticide residue and ensures that farmers are using it in a safe manner and also the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) which offers the regulations, guidelines for product submission evaluations, as well as approvals (or rejections)--and is one of the largest evaluation processes across the world.14

In addition to ensuring that approved herbicides are used properly by farmers, regulatory agencies also ensure that safe and proper usage of glyphosate is followed by producers, farmers and animals to ensure that no unintended danger is caused to the natural environment or other animals.

The use of precision technology and farming has allowed farmers to gain more control over the use of glyphosate. They are also able to pinpoint exactly where and how it is applied.

Concerning pesticide residues, it's uncommon for glyphosate to be found on food items and, at limits detected it is not likely to cause harm. The CFIA ensures farmers use herbicides properly and work within established residue limits.16 In the rare occasion that it is detected in very low amounts (e.g., 1 part per billion) this is below the limits set by the Government of Canada, and is not a health or safety concern since it doesn't pose any risk to humans or animals.18

Glyphosate use as part of practices for sustainable agriculture

Farmers employ herbicides, including Glyphosate, as part an integrated approach to pest and weed management. グリホサート That means they are using more than herbicides to manage the growth of weeds. Glyphosate enabled farmers to adopt conservation/no-till methods that provide long-term benefits to the soil and the air.

- Elimination or reduction of plowing/tilling of the land

Reduced CO2 emissions

Capturing carbon from the soil

Improve soil health

- Reducing water runoff and limiting erosion13

"No pesticide regulatory authority in the world currently considers the glyphosate a cancer threat for humans at the present levels at which they are exposed." -- Health Canada, January 11 2019.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

It is more critical than ever before to ensure Canadian farmers have the technological tools, equipment and assistance they require to feed a growing population.

The most effective agriculture, food safety and pest control practices will ensure that farmers have food supply plentiful and safe. Glyphosate is one of the many tools they employ to ensure that Canadians and other people around the globe have access to healthy, affordable food in the present as well as in the near future.
