In 2050, the population will reach 9.7 million people.1 But, the amount of land that can be used for agriculture in the world isn't growing at the same rate as we do. Farmers aren't able to meet this increasing demand all on their own. Technology and tools of the present, such as herbicides such as glyphosate can be used to help farmers effectively and precisely manage weeds, which results in more sustainable and secure food supply.

What is glyphosate exactly?

Glyphosate can be used as a non-selectiveand versatile herbicide by land managers as well as gardeners across the globe. It has been used for more than 40 years. It works by blocking the enzymes that plants, specifically unwanted weeds, require in order to develop. These benefits are obvious. But is glyphosate safe?

In Canada Glyphosate usage is controlled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) which checks crops for pesticide residue and ensures that farmers are using it in a safe manner and also the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) which offers the regulations, guidelines for product submission evaluations, as well as approvals (or rejections)--and is one of the largest evaluation processes across the world.14
