The Minecraft film is assembling its actors. Jason Momoa, who you may recognize as the Aquaman guy with massive muscles and an erupting waterfall of blonde hair, or the Game of Thrones guy with mountains of hair and a waterfall of blond hair is expected to be the main character of the Minecraft movie. That's according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
If you've wiped it from your memory you're not alone. The Minecraft movie has been around the block. It first popped up in 2014 when Minecraft creator Marcus "Notch" Persson announced its "potential" existence on Twitter in order to stay ahead of "leaks." Since it was announced, the film has been in various states of development hell (an industry term meant to describe projects that have been in development for ages due to production woes).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jared Hess is now the director. Premiumebooks is best known for the oddball coming-of-age comedy Napoleon Dynamite but has directed a handful of under-the-radar films and television, including two episodes for the Will Forte film The Last Man on Earth.
It's unclear what exactly the storyline of the Minecraft movie will be. However, with Hess acting as director and with Momoa, who sports some solid comedy chops, leading the project, it's a good bet that Minecraft isn't as dark as the other film that revolves around a game of blocks. Tetris, to quote Matthew Vaughan, is a "political Cold War thriller."
