It is not surprising that the world's populace is increasing. It is predicted that the world will have 9.7 billion people by 2050.1 Unfortunately, the area of land that can be used for agriculture across the globe isn't growing at the same rate as ours. This poses serious problems for farmers responsible for producing sufficient high-quality food for Canadians and others around the globe.
Canada is the 5th largest exporter.2 Canadian farmers play a vital role in providing food to all. They will be required to produce more food items than ever before.
In 2050, farmers must to produce 70% more food to meet the demand of the growing population. *Source The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations How to feed the world by 2050

Farmers cannot meet this growing demand all on their own. https://search.kakaku.com/%8F%9C%91%90%8D%DC%20%83O%83%8A%83z%83T%81%5B%83g/ グリホサート The good news is that current technology, such as herbicides like glyphosate, and other tools, can assist farmers in managing weeds more effectively and efficiently, creating a sustainable and reliable food supply.
What exactly is Glyphosate?
Glyphosate is a powerful herbicide that is non-selective and has been used by gardeners, land managers farmers, and other people around the globe for more than 40+ years. グリホサート It is a chemical that blocks the enzyme activity that plants (in this instance, weeds that are not wanted herbicides) require to develop. The enzymes do not exist in either humans or animals.4 So, if applied correctly, glyphosate does not pose a danger to either.5
Glyphosate can be utilized for many other purposes than just agriculture. It is utilized in municipal areas to guard wildlife and the public from harmful weeds.6 Furthermore, it's used to prevent the spread of fire and to maintain the visibility of railway tracks.
More recently it's been noticed that there's been a greater awareness of glyphosate and its use in our lives. グリホサート While it is important to be aware of what's in our food items, it's worth noting that over 160 health regulatory bodies around the world such as Health Canada, agree that the safe use of glyphosate for humans can be properly done.
In helping Canadians understand what glyphosate is and the way it is used and the critical role it plays in the production of food and sustainable farming practices can help alleviate concerns about this one of the instruments farmers employ to make sure we all have accessible, safe and affordable food available to us.
Glyphosate: Why is it employed in the field of agriculture?
The agricultural use of herbicides based on glyphosate benefits farmers, consumers and the natural environment. It is essential for efficient control of weeds as well as sustainable food supply and also environmental sustainability. Let's explore every benefit.
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (9 U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization) The organization estimates that farmers suffer losses of between 30-40% and 60% of their crops each year to pests and weeds. This is devastating, particularly for farmers who depend on their crops to earn a living.
It's not difficult to understand why farmers have relied on their tools throughout the year. Glyphosate is a powerful method to manage destructive weeds in fields, especially when they're resistant to glyphosate.

Glyphosate offers plants a chance to fight.
The world and Canada have many advantages: Affordable, plentiful food
The population is growing and a significant portion of the agricultural land is in danger because of soil degradation and desertification.10 This has led to increased food insecurity. Canadians may be paying 55% more for food, if they do not have modern agricultural techniques like Glyphosate.
Foods we love would be harder to come by. But, thanks to science-based agriculture farmers will soon be in a position to produce more of our favourite food items over time.
Glyphosate is a great way to control the growth of weeds. It also can help reduce the cost of food at the grocery. Glyphosate can also assist farmers to take care of the land that Cherilyn Jolli-Nagle, a Saskatchewan farmer, describes as "their most valuable asset" their land.
We love eating at tables.
Crop protection tools like glyphosate are used to safeguard crops against pests and diseases. Farmers are able to grow.
42% more grains like wheat and corn
72 percent more fruit
83% more vegetables & potatoes12
The benefits are evident. But is glyphosate actually safe?
Simply said it, absolutely. Like all pesticides , you must follow the directions on the label. Canada regulates the use of glyphosate by two agencies: the Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA), which inspects crops and verifies that they're free of residual pesticides. The Pest Management and Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is the one that provides the guidelines for regulation and submission evaluations.
While regulatory agencies are accountable for ensuring that farmers use appropriate herbicides producers and farmers are essential in ensuring that glyphosate can be utilized safely and correctly so that there isn't any unintended harm to animals, the natural environment, or humans.
The application of precision technology and agriculture has enabled farmers to take greater control over the application of glyphosate. They can also determine exactly where and how it is applied.

The CFIA ensures farmers use pesticides correctly and stay within established residue limits.16 In the rare occasion that it is found in low levels (e.g., 1 part per billion), it is well below the limits set by the Government of Canada, and is not a health or safety concern17 as it would not pose any risk to humans or animals.18
Use of glyphosate as part sustainable farming practices
Farmers employ herbicides like glyphosate in integrated pest/weedmanagement methods. This means that they employ more herbicides than just weedicides. Glyphosate has enabled them to implement conservation tillage/no-till practices that have long-term benefits to the soil, air and the environment as a whole which include:
- The reduction or elimination plowing/tilling land
- To reduce CO2 emissions
Capturing carbon out of the soil
Improve the health of your soil
- Reducing water runoff and limiting erosion13
"No pesticide regulatory agency anywhere in the world is currently evaluating Glyphosate to pose a cancer risk to humans at the present levels." - Health Canada (January 11, 2019, Health Canada).
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations How to feed the planet by 2050
Ensuring Canadian farmers have the equipment, tools and resources they require to meet the ever-growing food demands of a growing population is more crucial than ever before.
We can expect farmers to ensure the quality and safety of our food by following safe food and agricultural security practices and pest management. Glyphosate is just one of the many tools they use to ensure Canadians and other people all over the world have access nutritious, affordable food options in the near and future.
