Three Different Ways
Ah, the cinnamon rolls. There is nothing better than freshly baked cinnamon rolls, freshly baked and covered in frosting. askingasking2expert can take a long time to prepare. I love them but I rarely make them (much less early in the morning) because of the time aspect. That's when I started to wonder if cinnamon rolls can be frozen.

As a lover of cooking with freezers that I am I set out to do some research about this specific issue. I happily discovered it is much easier than you might think to freeze cinnamon roll. I am delighted to share with you the knowledge what I have learned today from this simple guide to learn how to Freeze Cinnamon Rolls!

While making another batch of cinnamon rolls to enjoy with our family on Thanksgiving, I realized that this post needed some clarification based on my many years of experience using frozen cinnamon rolls.

When I bake my own cinnamon rolls, I prefer to use the Pioneer Woman's recipe for cinnamon rolls. While her recipe produces a lot of cinnamon rolls, it's nevertheless delicious. It's a fantastic freezer recipe since you'll not be able to consume them all at once. Ree's recipe is amazing, but it has a few changes. Instead of using melted butter I made use of slightly less butter and I just softened it. It solved some of the general oozing problems. The frosting is tasty as well (even with vanilla instead of maple and coffee).

Here are three methods for freezing cinnamon rolls

1. How to freeze baked cinnamon rolls with frosting
A majority of people choose the first option. Bake and then frost the cinnamon rolls in the manner specified in the recipe. Cool, wrap tightly to store in the freezer. Freeze. Remove the cinnamon rolls out of the freezer the night prior to when you are ready serve. Warm individual rolls in the microwave until ready to serve.

2. How do you make cinnamon rolls in the freezer after the rise of
You can also store the cinnamon rolls in a pan however, only after they've risen slightly and prior to baking. This method requires taking the pan out of the freezer on the night prior to baking and allow them to thaw and then rise on the counter for a night. Then, bake in the morning and then frost the same way as you would normally.

3. How can you stop the freezing of cinnamon rolls prior to when they rise
In the final method the flash freezes individual cinnamon rolls prior to baking or rising. This technique will permit you to store cinnamon roll dough.

Make your cinnamon rolls as usual. Cut your cinnamon rolls into pieces and place them about an inch apart on an ice cream sheet. Cool them for minimum 30 minutes prior to storing them in the freezer. Then, place the cookies on a baking sheet.

When ready to serve take the exact quantity of rolls you'd like to serve and place them in a baking pan. The rolls should be allowed to thaw over night on the counter. Bake and frost according to the recipe.

How can you freeze cinnamon rolls made from scratch?
Three options were tested and I'll show how the frosting was packaged for freezing. I also made my frosting in advance and then frozen it (hence the large yogurt container in the picture). Any of the three methods for freezing cinnamon rolls work but these are my ideas on the best method to store cinnamon rolls.

I began with my desire to cook to learn about freezing cinnamon rolls in accordance with Ree, the Pioneer Woman, who makes large quantities of delicious cinnamon rolls. Ree suggests the first method that involves baking them and frosting them before freezing. This is the simplest and most effective method for freezing. Everything is covered already, so you can just reheat the rolls in the microwave or oven as you're ready to enjoy the rolls.

Make sure you use disposable pans if you use this method. This technique is ideal if you need to serve many people and get everything done quickly. You can bakeand then store your food in the freezer until you're ready to serve.

While it's a good option, freezing your rolls in a pan before baking (method 2) takes the most space from your freezer. In addition, if you don't have disposable pans, this can tie to another pan since it's going to be in the freezer. It's easy to plan ahead and then take the pan from the fridge the evening before. This method is a great way to get the benefit of creating cinnamon rolls that cook warm right out of the oven.
