Java And Bedrock Editions Merge, Creating One Minecraft To Rule All

The phenomenal popularity of Minecraft didn't come without its issues, among them was the fact that the game was developed in Java. This is the version that many players prefer, but the Bedrock version was the most popular version for a number of years. The name was changed to "Minecraft" by the year 2017.

Confused? The differences are important for those who are interested in Minecraft and the most crucial being that it's easier to modify the Java edition. Regardless of how you play, the split always had one very notable kink on PC which was that you had to buy each separately. Now Mojang and Microsoft has announced that, starting tomorrow, 7 June, the two versions of what many consider to be the most popular game ever created are being merged into Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.

That's some inspired name right there. This allows purchasers to access both versions of Minecraft and is the "only offering of the vanilla Minecraft on Windows PC." You can play with Java or Bedrock players by simply launching the version you and your friends are currently playing.

Players who already own one of the versions of the game will be upgraded to the duopack edition. Mojang warns that it could take some time to roll out completely however, all Minecraft Launcher owners should see the new version appear automatically within the next few days.

"To be clear, Java and Bedrock will remain distinct games, each with its distinct features," says Mojang in the blog post announcing the change. "The only difference is that now you can get both as standard when you buy Minecraft for your Windows PC, and access both through the same launcher."

Over the years, the split between versions has been controversial. Java players were upset when Microsoft demanded that they create a Microsoft account. However, this seems to it just make a lot of sense and will be beneficial to players.

Minecraft is in excellent health. Players are currently waiting for the huge Wilds update (opens new tab). runescape 's still active in the real world, with most recently being used to support President Emmanuel Macron's reelection campaign (opens new tab). I wonder how many people are able to vote on the server. No matter what edition they use, players continue to create stunning visual spectacles in this ever innovative and blocky world (opens new tab).
